Johannesburg

Johannesburg, Coffee City !

South Africans often feel sorry for us Jo'burgers, but Jozi is a very cool place for coffee lovers and roasters. Yes, we do not have the sea nor do we have the sea plus that famous mountain, but when it comes to coffee :

  1. One of eGoli's sister cities is Addis Abba, the capital of Ethiopia, the home of coffee.

  2. Johannesburg is filled with trees - roughly 10 million of them. Imagine if we did not have frost in winter. Like Ethiopia we could probably produce some of the best shade grown coffee in our gardens.

  3. Jo'burg gets roughly 12 hours of sunlight per day. Always plenty of daylight time for us to drink coffee.

  4. Jozi lies 1700 to 2000 m above sea level. This makes iKhofi a high altitude roaster and therefore our beans are better roasted than those by the altitude envious guys at the beach.

  5. Commuters spend an average 72 minutes traveling in Jozi. You will have to be patient getting your iKhofi, making the reward so much greater.

  6. If you get the caffeine sweats, do not worry, Johannesburg has 59 public swimming pools.

  7. Before going totally green and therefore only drinking organic coffee. Ditch the SUV's and 4 x 4 first, since Jozi has 7519 kilometers of roads and only 905 kilometers are untarred. Our mayor has promised to fix the potholes, so all will be OK soon ?

  8. It is one of the world's youngest major cities. Therefore a great place to introduce exciting new coffees without the hand break of traditionalism.

  9. Between them, Jozi's residents earn a combined income of over R 28 billion a year. Hence plenty of money for that gourmet coffee experience.

  10. It is continually being rebuilt, change is in the people's blood. Expect great new things for coffee coming out of JHB.

But I want to surf after my morning coffee. Do something real exciting, surf our mine dumps !
